good neighbors smWhat THEY do: Good Neighbors is an international non-profit humanitarian organization, based in Los Angeles, focused and committed to bring child education, community development, and emergency relief to 30 countries around the world. Their projects span from building clean water wells in Africa to building cook stoves for families in Guatemala.

What YOU can do: You can go abroad with them to one of the many countries they help or become a domestic volunteer and participant in their many organizational needs. Good Neighbors is proud to be a certifying organization of the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) -- the premier volunteer awards program!

hoopsforhope smWhat THEY do: It is the biggest basketball shoot-a-thon in the world! Every dollar raised goes directly to the project you select to help children in need, and every free throw helps a child from becoming an orphan.

What YOU can do: Join thousands of participants and teams from all over the world and shoot free throws to help children left behind. By simply shooting free throws, Hoops of Hope volunteers and participants have raised over $3 million dollars.

donors choose smWhat THEY do: An online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need all over the nation. Public school teachers post project requests on the site, and anyone can give a donation to the projects that inspire and touch them the most.

What YOU can do: By giving a donation, no matter how small or large, you will be helping and addressing the educational inequity that is in rampant in our school systems. And you'll help give children the tools they need to make the most out of their education.

trevor project smWhat THEY do: They are the leading American non-profit organization focused on suicide prevention among LGBT young people and questioning youths.

What YOU can do: Become a Trevorline or TrevorChat counselor. Help with events or aid in other organizational needs. This organization thrives with the help of its volunteers and donations. If you give a little of your time you could save a life.

food forward smWhat THEY do: A grassroots group that gathers and harvests excess fruits and vegetables from private properties, public spaces, and farmers and wholesale markets, and then donates 100% of what they procure to local food pantries and other agencies that service populations in need across Southern California. Food Forward provides enough food to partners to feed over 100,000 clients a month.

What YOU can do: This volunteered-powered group can use all the helping hands it can get. There are many ways to get involved, including joining or starting a harvest team, helping with office support, scouting new locations, and more. 

“(We) are passionate about reconnecting to our food system, promoting issues of food justice, and making change around hunger in our community.”

causeforcelebtation smWhat THEY do: Cause for Celebration is a public charity that provides birthday parties for underprivileged children who reside in shelters or that have recently left living in a shelter.

What YOU can do: All of their programs are run by volunteers -- and you can become a vital part of the team bringing happiness to a child on their very special day. Party volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

“We believe that children should not just be thought of during the holidays but that they deserve to be celebrated throughout the year, especially during the time that is just about them (their birthday).”
